What the numbers mean — and what they do not

Search volume measures how many people type a name into a search engine each month. It is a reasonable proxy for public recognition and a poor proxy for almost everything else. A creator ranked #90 here may well have more subscribers, better retention and higher earnings than one ranked #30: those figures are private, and anyone publishing them is guessing.

Two further caveats worth stating plainly. First, demand for a name is not always demand for a subscription — a large share of queries in this niche is people hunting free copies of paid material, which converts to nothing and benefits nobody. Second, name collisions exist. Where a handle is also a common word, or where two creators use similar aliases, volume can be overstated; we merged the obvious cases by hand and left ambiguous ones out of the index entirely rather than inflate a ranking with noise.
